ABOUT US
"You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time,
but you can't please all of the people all of the time"
John Lydgate.
English poet & monk.
(Later adapted by Abraham Lincoln)
2023 SEASON
Since the Covid lockdowns staffing has been a major factor within the hospitality sector. Despite frequently trying to recruit we have become a casualty of this problem. We have made a decision therefore to open Wednesday to Saturday throughout the 2023 season.
We run every aspect of the business ourselves along with our tiny team and by reducing our opening times we KNOW we have it covered rather than letting any customers down by having to close suddenly at a later date.
This situation is not ideal for us but as the old saying goes you have to cut your robe according to your cloth!
THE FOOD
If you're looking for fine dining, cutting edge techniques & experimental flavours in all honesty we are probably not for you.
If on the other hand you enjoy good honest cooking, fresh produce, flavoursome food and hearty portions with a nod to the classics, all washed down with good value wines and yummy cocktails come in and enjoy what we have to offer!
Now we are in the busy part of the season we are all working our hardest to provide a lovely service for you. Our very small kitchen team only have one oven so please be aware that there might be a wait for food especially if you don't order a starter.
We do stagger our bookings to avoid extended wait times but sometimes people arrive early or late for their reservation and this can have a knock on effect so we respectfully ask for your patience.
THE SERVICE
Our passion is to make you feel welcome & comfortable! We understand that you can choose from lots of restaurants in town so want to make you feel that bit more special for choosing to dine with us. If we can help with anything please just ask, we will do our very best to accommodate your requirements.
THE ATMOSPHERE & DECOR
We really are situated in a cellar (a lovely atmospheric one!) so we are not really about sea views, instead we offer a wonderful relaxed & warm atmosphere. There is no stainless steel, bright lights or stark white walls here, rather a mellow vintage glow that we hope you will love.
PRAMS & INFANTS
Whilst we welcome your little ones at Cellar Bistro we are predominantly a relaxed adult environment so we do ask that you consider other diners by not disturbing them. We request that if you are bringing infants under 7 years of age you book our earlier tables before 6.30pm (if outside of school holidays.)
Also as space is at a premium we are unable to accommodate large prams or lots of associated gear.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
PAYMENT METHODS ACCEPTED
We accept cash & card (not American Express, sorry.)
We firmly believe that cash should remain within our economy.
